Portland: Ore.: [Union Pacific Railroad System], 1920. Actually the corporate name changed several times in first few decades... the exact name on the document would establish the earliest possible date.

Probably a Diazo positive print reproduction of a technical drawing using a contact print process on light-sensitive sheets measuring 26 by 18.25 inches; Carefully handled. Mild edge wear with the exposed area when rolled up into a tube-shape sun-toned, modestly showing on the map side.

We have not located any other copies of this map in institutions on in the marketplace. Dated c1920 by the Arrowrock Dam, Idaho which was opened in 1917.

Initials REB in the lower right corner presumed the artist. Background Information:
Recognizing the opportunity to monopolize access to Oregon by the transcontinental railroads as well as maintaining a near-monopoly on regional waterways, financier Henry Villard incorporated the Oregon Railway & Navigation Company (OR&N) on June 13, 1879.

The OR&N controlled the transcontinental railway to Portland and lines in nearly every part of the state. Its river business extended from the mouth of the Columbia to Eugene on the Willamette and to Lewiston, Idaho, on the Snake, plus access to Puget Sound. The company also operated the Pacific Coast Steamship Company, with steamship service between Portland and San Francisco.
