About This Item

Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1975 First printing of the stated first edition. Signed association copy from Kay Boyle to Joan Mellen, her biographer and friend (Mellen is the author of twenty-four books, including the autobiography: “Kay Boyle: Author of Herself” [1994]). Signed and inscribed by Boyle directly on the half-title page, dated in year/month of publication: ""January 1, 1975 / To Joanie, who has the purity / and the fervor of the Jongleur / de Notre Dame in her spirit / as in her blood, and whether her / name be Joanie or Callisto / dances in desecration before the altars of convention with / the grace of all three. / In loving friendship, / Kay / San Francisco" Boyle also corrected an error on p.13, line #10, crossing out "was" replacing it with "were" in blue ink above. Spine ends crimped else book in fine condition; dust jacket with a crease to upper corner of front flap, spine faintly toned, tiny closed tear to bottom front spine-fold, and light wear to extremities, else fine.
