MacDonald's celebrated and award-winning Southern California private detective Lew Archer investigates extortion and murder in the midst of a brushfire ravaging a Southern California community; tape marks on top and bottom edges of both covers; bottom edges of both covers stained; signature of previous owner on fep; back paste down stained, with date (4/71) in ink in upper right corner; dustjacket shows some edgewear with stained lower right front panel (not particularly noticeable against dustjacket's orange background color; stain and tape marks on jacket's obverse side; having noted all that, text is still tight and clean. A placeholder or reading copy.
Synopsis
Ross Macdonald's real name was Kenneth Millar. Born near San Francisco in 1915 and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Millar returned to the U.S. as a young man and published his first novel in 1944. He served as the President of the Mystery Writers of America and was awarded their Grand Master Award, as well as the Mystery Writers of Great Britain's Silver Dagger Award. He died in 1983.
