About This Item
New York: Carlton Press, 1964. First edition. 8vo, 184pp. Photographs. Signed and inscribed by Romero to the former owner on the ffep. Publisher's green cloth boards, spine lettered in black, illustrated jacket. A near fine copy with some wrinkling to corner of half title page in very good jacket with some chipping at spine ends.
Fascinating work from Mexican photographer, hunter, diver, conservationist, and founder of CEDAM (Conservation, Education, Diving, Awareness and Marine Research), Pablo Bush Romero (1905-1998). The book reads like an adventure novel, accompanied by photographs, detailing Romero's explorations with CEDAM of fabled underwater wrecks such as El Matancero; a search for the tomb of pirate, Jean Lafitte; the discovery of a Mayan crematorium in an underwater cavern of the Inlet of Xeláh and others.
A relatively uncommon book, and even more so signed. .
