The first complete publication of Lashly's sledging diaries from Scott's " Discovery " and " Terra Nova " expeditions. Lashly was a petty officer on both of Scott's expeditions, 1901-4 and 1910-13 and made major contributions to each. He is best remembered for the saga of the return of the last supporting party from the south with "Teddy" Evans and petty officer Tom Crean during which Lashly and Crean saved Evan's life and for which King George V awarded both men the Albert Medal.
