About This Item
Henry Hoyt. Good. 1869 Henry Hoyt (Boston, Massachusetts), 6 1/4 x 7 3/4 inches tall embossed full leather bound, five raised bands and gilt lettering to spine, all page edges gilt, marbled endpapers with gilt dentelles framing both pastedowns, illustrated by engraved frontispiece and numerous full-page engravings (all with tissue guards), extra engraved title page (printed in red, purple and brown), all page red-ruled, 258 pp. Slight to moderate staining, rubbing and edgewear to covers, with about two inches of cracking to the leather along the upper hinge of the front cover. A bit of bumping and chipping to the lower spine cap. Very slight bowing to front board. Marginal sun fading to marbled pastedowns. Slight cracking between marbled front pastedown and adjoining free-endpaper, though the binding is quite solid. Christmas 1868 gift inscription and prior owner name stamp to blank front free-endpaper. Slight staining to title page, and to a few interior pages. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - of this scarce post-Civil War collection of religious verse. Due to the weight of the book, additional postage will be required for standard international orders. ~BB~ [3.0P] Illustrated with numerous period engravings, a post-Civil War collection of religious verse, edited by American Methodist minister and writer Bradford Kinney Peirce (1819-1899).
