1950. Second edition. Hardcover. Good/fair. 244 pages with a foldout map at the hinge and 34 early b&w photos; Tightly bound but foxed, esp fore-edge & prelims, also with partially whited-out penned name as well as a pasted in name-stamp on fep, cover edges rubbed, dw complete but spoiled and brittle either due to or following an amateurish tape strengthening of all edges, both sides and a slight tear to foldout map. While still substantially good condition for age, the initial impression is slightly worse Renowned photographer-mountaineer, practising first in the Canterbury region before pioneering the glaciers of Westland (Rangitata Valley etc) in the 1930's, with lots of deep exploration knowledge & history to draw on
