Philadelphia: Henry Altemus Company, 1900. First Edition Thus. . Hardcover. Good Plus to Very Good/No Jacket. From the Altemus publishing company's Young People's Library, an abridged edition of "Uncle Tom's Cabin," 'Arranged For Young Readers'. First Edition Thus, early printing. About 5 1/4 x 6 3/4 inches, 309 pages in tan cloth-covered boards with pictorial front cover in red, green and black with black line borders showing two girls, one African-American, one white, standing in counctry road and holding hands. Black lettering on front cover and spine. Frontispiece, 90 black & white illustrations, including portrait of Mrs. Stowe. 22 pages of publisher's ads at the end. Boards show light to moderate soiling and surface wear with heaviest wear on fore edges. Fep shows inkstamped name and address of previous owner and light finger-soiling. Text edges lightly soiled and show very light foxing on fore edge with occasional light soiling or staining in text. That said, book is complete and completely legible; hinges are intact and binding is reasonably tight. All illustrations, including cover, are undamaged. No significant flaws. A quite decent copy of this scarce edition of Stowe's signature work.
