First Edition. 472 pages, frontis, photos, illustrations, rebound with original front cover placed on the front board, tight solid copy. Howes C659, Rader 881, Rittenhouse 121, " Wootton made his first trip over the Santa Fe Trail in 1836 and spent years in the Far West. In 1856 he hauled government freight on the trail. In 1866 he secured a charter and built a toll road through Raton Pass, operating it until the railroad came in 1878. His account contains many tales and description of wagons, techniques, and personalities." Graff 846.
