Illustrator: Various. 900 g;[2], VIII, 6-472,[2] pages, all edges gilt, gold coloured place marker ribbon, well bound in a dark brown binding which resembles leather, with gilt decoration to the spine and front panel. The only damage to the book is the previous owner's name written in ink opposite the half title page. The pagination is as I have given it. Uncle Dick Wootten had a life filled with adventures: in this book he tells about them all. But in the end what counts is not so much his adventures as the advice he gives. It is detailed accounts of how to trade with Indians, how to survive in a blizzard in the Rockies, how to keep wolves from eating your slain buffalo, we learn the margins that gave the insider like Wooton an edge in that earliest of great American enterprises, the winning of the West. -- from the editors Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
