[From jacket flap] I write this book because I refuse to believe that the human race like the dinosaurs, is doomed to extinction. I am confid ent that man, the only creature that has survived the cataclysms of centuries, by the creativity of his mind, and the resiliency of his spirit, can remake his world into a world of life rather than death ... The concerns of our planet must be shared by all. While we in the Third World recognize our share, indeed, more than our share, of the burden, we cannot ignore that our problems are not all of our making. The ideological and armed divisions of our age could just as well be a competition for sharing the world's surplus. But this is at best a worthy dream and a noble intention. Sacrifices are made unequally: the poor, who have less to sacrifice, are obliged to sacrifice more. Our debts are, of course, due to our own desires and aspirations, but their consequences exceed our culpability in wanting more for our peoples. Still, I would not have written this book if I did not feel that we can change the nature of m'en and nations. There has to be a time of recognition, a moment of getting together. After forty years of trying to achieve the noblest aims of all mankind, that time, I believe, has come. .
