About This Item

[Munich]: Vyd-vo, 1951. Second uncensored edition. The memoirs of one of the leading public and political figures of the Ukrainian national liberation struggles of 1917-1921, Isaak Prokhorovych Mazepa (1884-1952), contain a wealth of factual material about the course of events in Ukraine in the 1910s-1920s. The author provides his direct and candid view of the events and their participants.

In the preface, the author mentions changes in some places in the text to circumvent censorship that was present in the first edition. Consequently, this edition is able to include some photographs that were not possible to include before.

Book measures: 21.5 x 15 cm. 3 volumes: 210; 245; 223 pages: illustrations. Text in Ukrainian. The first volume is securely bound in a hardcover cloth binding, showcasing light signs of wear and foxing. Previous owner stamps belonging to Konstantin Rybalka adorn the first pages. In contrast, both the second and third volumes remain within their original wrappers and dust jackets, albeit with noticeable signs of wear. The paper quality of these volumes is notably fragile, with edges and dust jackets exhibiting chipping and some pages remaining partially uncut. Despite these flaws, the volumes are intact and retain their structural integrity, providing a fascinating glimpse into their historical context.

Isaak Prokhorovych Mazepa (1884-1952) played a pivotal role in Ukrainian politics during the early 20th century. Serving as the Head of the Government of the Ukrainian People's Republic from August 1919 to May 1920, Mazepa emerged as a prominent figure in the 1917 Ukrainian revolution, contributing significantly to the country's political landscape during a tumultuous period of transition and upheaval.
