Joachim Brohm è diventato famoso all'inizio degli anni '80, uno dei primi fotografi in Europa a scattare foto esclusivamente a colori, collegando il paesaggio quotidiano con le nuove possibilità della fotografia a colori. Questa collezione intitolata "Typology 1979" è una delle sue primissime serie, raffiguranti 35 capannoni di lottizzazione dalla regione tedesca della valle della Ruhr, immagini pittoriche che sono un inventario quotidiano - delle strutture del giardino e dell'attività umana. Influenzato dai grandi fotografi americani come William Eggleston e Robert Adams, guardò anche ai suoi contemporanei tedeschi, Bernd e Hilla Becher, le cui "tipologie" sono annunciate nel titolo della collezione.
