London, New York, Oxford University Press, 1954. First Edition. Hardback. Near fine cloth copy in a near-fine, very slightly edge-nicked and dust-dulled dw, now mylar-sleeved. Remains particularly and surprisingly well-preserved overall; tight, bright, clean and strong. Copy previously owned by Vivian Ridler with his uninked embossed personalised stamp to front free endpaper. Vivian Ridler, CBE (2 October 1913-11 January 2009), ex-Faber executive was also a printer, typographer and scholar in Britain. He was Printer to the University of Oxford at Oxford University Press from 1958 until his retirement in 1978; and also established his own Perpetua Press. ; 8vo 8"" - 9"" tall; 550 pages; Description: 550 p. 26 cm.
