Docketed "Six Persons" in ink in upper left corner. 4to. Jones writes to William Targ, editor at Putnam's, "I have received your letter. What you say is very clear and I will write a novel that I hope is a good one." In the letter Jones references (a copy of which is included here) Targ refers to a lunch he had with Jones and his wife, and encourages Jones to continue work on "Six Persons," saying he believes it could become "something of a classic." A typed note later added to the bottom of that copy explains that the ms. was ultimately declined by Putnam's. Jones also signs his letter in type "Imamu Amiri Baraka
