In part: ".There are many things in Ella Winter's article that I felt to be unfortunate. I was sorry that she had to tell on Santa Claus by proclaiming that I had circularized the whole country to send letters of congratulations to the students. It is quite untrue that I had asked the local people to entertain our guests. Their invitations were spontaneous and generous. It was untrue that I asked, or received, supplies form the stores. Whatever was needed I bought. It was untrue that I asked Mrs. Untermeyer for a donation.I was sorry to have to write the students an apology for the things that Ella Winter had written.
