About This Item

Quarto, one page, on California Institute of Technology letterhead, 3 November 1998. Two horizontal creases where folded for posting; in fine condition, with the original envelope. 'Each year at the ASID [Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases] scientific meeting, a world-renowned expert in infectious diseases is invited to give the Macfarlane Burnet Oration, named in honour of the Nobel Prize-winning Australian virologist Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet, a pioneer in the fields of virology and immunology' (ASID website). Baltimore politely declines the offer due to other travel commitments, adding 'Please accept my best wishes for a festive celebration of Mac Burnet's 100th Birthday'.

Provenance: Collection of The Hon Barry Jones AC.
