1902. HUTT, Henry. TARKINGTON, Booth. THE TWO VANREVELS. Illustrated by Henry Hutt. NY: McClure, Phillips, 1902. Small 8vo., brown boards with paper spine label. Limited Edition of 500 unsigned copies out of an edition of 1,000- the other 500 were bound in vellum and signed. Signed inscription from Tarkington on verso of the frontispiece: "Very gladly yours, Booth Tarkington. Christmas Time, 1902." Also believed to be signed by Tarkington's sister on the dedication where she writes "Elizabeth Booth" beneath the "To My Mother" imprint- the book is dedicated to her. With an additional signed presentation from his sister on the half-title page: "Happy Christmas To [Lenny?] from the proud sister of the author." A unique, one-of-a-kind copy. Good (some very shallow chipping head of spine with little dampstain at base of spine, few tiny rubbed spots). $385.00.
Synopsis
It was long ago in the days when men sighed when they fell in love; when people danced by candle and lamp, and did dance, too, instead of solemnly gliding about; in that mellow time so long ago, when the young were romantic and summer was roses and wine, old Carewe brought his lovely daughter home from the convent to wreck the hearts of the youth of Rouen.
