Arthur Rackhams's first published color illustrations This rollicking tale of two young fairies adventuring in the real world features Arthur Rackham's first four color illustrations in print, black-and-white versions of the images having been published one year earlier in Little Folks Magazine. A presentable copy of a scare and important Rackham item. First edition. 8vo (7" x 5.25"). 190, [2] plus 16pp publisher's ads with date code "6 G-10.97," indicating the first issue. With four plates of color illustrations (frontis with a tissue guard), 19 black-and-white drawings in the text. In publisher's blue cloth, front cover design and spine titles stamped in gilt, rear cover design in blind, t.e.g., endpaper designs printed in gray. Minor sunning and rolling to spine, covers show light rubbing and a few areas of bubbling, small cracks to hinges; faint marginal toning and a few spots of foxing. Very Good.
