Reviews

On Feb 1 2021, a reader said:
Twin Sombreros is a piece of fluff. I say that not in a disparaging or hurtful way, but merely to say, it is a typical Zane Grey book--"what everybody knows he writes"--and when this book was written during the middle to late 1930's, ZG had pretty much become the writer everyone already said he was--a writer of "westerns", "the sum of which could be written on the back of a postage stamp" one critic decried. Indeed, his best years were behind him; he had said everything he needed to say in such great tomes as Riders of the Purple Sage, The Man of the Forest, Wanderer of the Wasteland, and others. Here he is just writing for profit, and there wasn't much profit to be made during the Great Depression. If it had not been for his wife, Dolly, who managed the business end of things, Zane Grey would most likely have gone bankrupt. Still, with all that being said, Twin Sombreros is a light-hearted, good western filled with action, romance, and remarkable characters, including Brazos Keene, last seen leaving Holly Ripple's ranch in Knights of the Range. I'd recommend it.
