About This Item
Knopf, New York, 1940. First American edition (published in England under the title of My Cousin Justin). The author's first novel, scarce, especially in the first edition in dustcover. A love story set in northern Ireland in the first third of the 20th century, with conflicts centering around Protestant-Catholic divisions, World War I and the Irish Rebellion. Beautiful descriptions of the country. A very attractive binding: boards covered with tan linen stippled with multicolored threads, printing/decorations in purple and pinkish red. The book is very near fine. The dustcover is good plus (moderate edgewear, especially at the spine ends, with a few small chips; two closed tears, front panel, 1 1/2 and 1 inch, respectively); still bright and quite attractive. Dustjacket in a mylar cover. 8 x 5 3/4 inches, 297 pp. (3214010). F. Hardcover.
