Presentation Copy, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR at front end page -"Autographed to Florence Holbrook Poucher by her father's old friend and 'boy soldier' comrade. Charles King December 9, 1914". Florence's father, Arthur Holbrook (1842-1917) was the author of With the Fifth Wisconsin at Williamsburg. During the Civil War, Dr. Arthur Holbrook, D.D.S., enlisted in Co F, 5th Wisconsin Infantry. At first a Sergeant, he later became 1st Lieutenant and belonged to Co. A, 28th Wisconsin Infantry. Still later he was Adjutant of the 39 Wisconsin Infantry. Brigadier General Charles King served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1882 until 1897, becoming Adjutant General in 1895. In 1898, he was appointed brigadier general of volunteers and sailed to the Philippines during the SpanishAmerican War. The book is Very Good Plus, light soiling to boards, spine slightly darkened, 20thc prior owner name front end page. Illustrated with 28 black and white photos. . SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR.
