New York: Harper & Brothers, 1843. First edition. Wraps. Very Good. 5 7/8 x 9 5/8 inches. 54 + [2] pages. A few scattered stains (mostly at lower margin). Otherwise, pages bright and clean and free from marking, soiling and staining. Bound in original light blue wraps. Wraps lightly soiled. Rear cover chipped at top. Corners curled and creased. A scarce collection of material concerning the controversial ordination of Arthur Carey (1822 - 1844), a twenty year old priest who was ordained by Bishop Benjamin Treadwell Onderdonk. Carey was accused of being Catholic. The controversy continued after Carey's death the following year, this time targeting the Bishop of New York who ordained him.
