About This Item
Montreal: Cooperation Productions, 1964. Vintage program for the world premiere of the 1964 film.
The world premiere was held March 20, 1964 in Montréal. The program features film reviews by Jean Le Moyne and Jacques Godbout, and extensive film credits.
A middle-class teenager is actively involved in campus politics, inciting protests and fighting to change the moral face of his college. He changes the life of an incompetent teacher, is expelled from school, and accidentally causes the death of a gay man. Religious themes, human sexuality, and an early entry in Canadian feature film industry, just as the country's federal government took measures to expand cinema audiences. Director Patry's first feature film, his earlier ventures, part of the cinema verite movement, include "Eye Witness No. 99" (1958), "The Little Sisters" (1959), "Le chanoine Lionel Groulx, historien" (1960), "Louis-Hippolyte Lafontaine" (1962), and "Francoise" (1964).
Set in and shot on location in Montréal.
