Prague, 1932. Large octavo (25.5 × 17.5 cm). Publisher's typographically illustrated self-wrappers; [16] pp. including wrappers. Very good; spine fold somewhat rubbed; very faint old vertical crease. Single early issue of this astonishingly rich -- in text, image, and typographic design -- satirical journal of the Czech avant-garde period, which features uncredited typographic layout by Karel Teige, numerous caricatures, and poems and prose. Among the contributors of this issue are Jiri Šašek, M. Veselý, Béna, František Bidlo, Rabelais, Zdenek Pribyl, K. Bava, Poggio Bracciolini, and others. Numerous ditties and poems poke fun at emerging Fascist culture. Copies in the original fragile wrappers are extremely scarce. KVK, OCLC only show various years at NYPL (vol. 4 and 5), Chicago (vols. 5-9), incomplete vol. 1 at Berkeley, AIC holds vols. 1-6, and Yale holds vols. 1-5.
