A Modern Library reprint edition of Kafka's acclaimed novel, which tells the absurdist tale of a bank clerk who is arrested on unspecified charges by an unspecified authority and put on trial for that unknown crime. This English language version with an appendix in which Kafka friend and literary executor Max Brod has restored certain passages which were written by the author but which were not included in the original text of the novel. Translated from the German by Willa and Edwin Muir. Revised, and with additional materials translated by E. M. Butler. Illustrated by George Salter. --- In rather scarce Toledano spine 9 / green cloth / gilt titling & decorations on spine / blindstamped oval torchbearer on cover / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style j, verso advertises 415 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1963 (1956 date appears in book).
