Bentley, an exciting whodunnit. The first edition, undated as called for. Dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library.Titled as his last case, this is actually the first of E. C. Bentley's novel to feature the amateur detective Philip Trent. The novel is noted for the fact it is a whodunit that rests firmly in the detective fiction genre. Many critics regard this novel to be the first of its kind, receiving much praised by noted authors, including Agatha Christie and G. K. Chesterton. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece.Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Spine is a little discoloured. Light rubbing to the spine. Prior owner's gift inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Rear hinge is strained. Internally, generally firmly bound, with strain to the binding between pages 62 and 63. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good
