New York: French & Adlard, 1837. First Edition. Hardcover. In two volumes. 299pp; 14 unnumbered leaves and 9 engraved plates, 7 of which are hand-colored and 2 are foldouts. The text volume is bound in the original brown decorated cloth with paper label affixed to the spine. The atlas volume is in the original cloth backed boards with paper label affixed to the front board. "[Bushe] left behind him a brilliant reputation as a bold, dashing operator, and as the author of the well-known standard monograph on the 'Diseases of the Rectum and Anus,' long considered the ablest work on the subject in any language." Dictionary of American Medical Biography, eds. Kelly and Burrage, 1971, p. 180. "The first American treatise on colon-rectal surgery," Garrison-Morton 3441.1. Former library set with stamps on the title pages and on the verso of the plates. Both spines professionally restored, foxing to text blocks, minor pencil annotations in the text volume, fairly heavy wear and rubbing to the atlas covers. A good set. Uncommon. ; Octavo.
