Philadelphia: Carson & Simpson, 1889. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 17" x 12.5" x 1.5. Illustrated; v. FIRST EDITION, 1889. VOLUME II ONLY. Very large, folio, heavy hardcover. Measures 17" tall x 12.5" wide x 1.5" thick, weighing 9 lbs. Bound in half black leather and textured burgundy publisher's cloth. Gilt lining adorns the seams of leather and cloth. Hubbed spine bears five raised bands and gilt lettering. Endpapers are a lovely peach color patterned with small, burnt orange flowers. Heavily illustrated throughout with fifty magnificent photogravure plates in different monotone colors ranging from sepia to black and white, lavender, blue, and other colors. All plates are protected by a paper leaf. Text with additional artwork in sepia follow each plate with information on the artist and the art piece. Artists are represented from Germany, England, France, Belgium, Italy, Holland and Scotland. Continuously paginated from Volume I, (not included), pages 101 through 202. <br><br>ARTISTS INCLUDE: Adolph Schreyer, G. H. Spine is cocked. Artwork inside is magnificent, showing very few foxing spots, and is textlock is completely unmarked. All fifty plates are present with their protective leaves, as well as each art piece's corresponding text.
