Cayol. 2 volumes [8vo. text plus folio plates]. 21 fine copper plates and 14 in outline after Faustino Anderloni (1766-1847), light foxing, thin folio, cloth- backed marbled boards. Paris: Gabon, 1823. Very good (+).<br/> <br/> One of the greatest classics on hernia, from which derive the eponyms "Scarpa's fascia" and "Scarpa's triangle" of the thigh. The magnificent anatomical plates, drawn and engraved to perfection, represent their subjects life-size. "Scarpa explained with excellent precision the different characteristics between inguilan and femoral hernias. The anatomical investigations resulted in the establishment of the very important principles relating to the pathology as well as the modern surgical treatment of these hernias."
