This book contains the history of locomotive development from the very first steam engine experiments of Stephenson to the advanced passenger trains of today. It is superbly illustrated with contemporary pictures and color photographs. The great steam era, the underground story, and the magnificent royal carriages and station buildings of the last 100 years are given special emphasis. Contains 250 illustrations in color and black and white. 192 pages including an index. The green binding has light wear at the corners and spine ends. There is a 1 1/2" scratch on the front cover, which is light, and two spots near the bottom, also light. The back cover has a bit of additional wear at the bottom 1" near the spine. The first free end paper was apparently stuck to the inside front cover, leaving two white areas on the ffep side, one 1 1/2", one a bit more than 1 1/2". Also white spots were left when parted on the inside cover; they are about the same size or slightly smaller than the ffep. The jacket lines up with the picture on the inside covers; price not clipped. The jacket has light wear at the corners. The top spine is a bit more worn with a tiny tear. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. .
