What makes the initial part of the history interesting is Captain McCahill traces what had happened in the Pacific to January 1, 1943. From the early days of Wake, Guam and the Philippines, he begins to show how the Marines began to repulse the Japanese [Japs in the parlance of the day]. The earliest shock was how the Japanese would not surrender so their losses were higher often losing at rate of 10-1 of the American forces.
