About This Item

New York: The James A. McCann Company Publishers, 1921. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good +/None. Photographs. 8vo, green publisher's original cloth with gold lettering on spine, illustrated with B&W glossy frontispiece photograph and 60 additional glossies, 1 map, [xii] + 264 pages. Father Vandenberg's well illustrated book records his ethnographic observations on the Wanyika, Wakamba, Wakikuyu, Masai, and Kavirondo, as well as Mambutu pygmies. The book is based on his journey from Mombassa through Kenya, Tanzania,, Uganda, and the Congo Basin during 1919. As distinguished anthropologist Robert Lowie observes, "the value of his offering ... lies not in the exposition of theories but in the presentation of facts recorded at first-hand or at least with the aid of competent witnesses."--Preface Preface by Robert Harry Lowie (1883 - 1957), an Austrian-born American anthropologist. An expert on North American Indians, he was instrumental in the development of modern anthropology.--Wikipedia VERY GOOD CONDITION: tight, bright, unmarked, with unfoxed pages and photos. A few scuff marks on otherwise tight cloth.
