London: J. Hatchard and Son, 1841. Hardcover. Good. Ex-library (non-circulating collection). Second Edition. Half green leather with cloth sides (gilt rules). Spine with raised bands, gilt tooled compartments; call number shows lightly. Spine's side-edges and tail lightly worn. Cloth sides are generally grubby. Marbled endpapers. Bookplates and library sticker on front pastedowns; no pocket. Pinhole library stamp on title-page, frontispiece, and many of the plates. Soiling on a handful of pages. Three color plates (including two large fold-outs and frontispiece); all 29 plates complete. xi, [1], 541 pages. 12mo. 7.5 x 4.75 inches. From the collection of John Wilson (c. 1826-1900), pioneer merchant and book collector of Portland, Oregon. The eight-thousand volume collection, considered one of the finest on the west coast, was bequeathed to the Portland public library in 1900. Travelogue and archaeological research by Elizabeth Caroline Gray (1800-1887), Scottish historian and author.
