A smart first edition, first impression of this powerful work by South African writer Alan Paton. The first edition, first impression of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper.Ink inscription to the front free end paper.Alan Stewart Paton (1903-1988) was a South African writer and anti-apartheid activist. This work was his second novel, considered to be one of his most successful and most powerful works. The story follows Afrikaner policeman Pieter van Vlaanderen and his tragic downfall. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is very smart and generally bright, with only slight fading to the spine and extremities of the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the occasional spot. Dust wrapper remains bright though chipped to the head and tail of the spine and a closed tear to the rear of the wraps. Light soiling to the rear of the wraps. Very Good Indeed
