Paris, 1930. Signed original artist's proof. This work was submitted as part of an exhibition, and bears the details to the back of the simple wooden frame. Image size: 320 x 260 mm (12½ x 10¼ inches). Within frame and under glass. Total size in frame: 400 x 460 mm. Marie Therese Robert was an Art Deco student at 'Academie Julian' in Paris in the early 1930's. The Academie still exists today, and is now known as ESAG Penninghen. One of 100 copies, numbered and signed by Michael Foreman on the title page and with a numbered and signed original etching loosely inserted. This copy number 1 of the book and etching. Illustrated in full colour throughout with the text confined to the margins. Hemingway's children's short story, a loose parody of Ferdinand the Bull, was originally published in Holiday magazine in 1951. This is the first printing with these illustrations. A fine copy in publishers laminated boards with full colour illustration to the front board. Colour illustrated endpapers. Etching image measures 3.9 x 3 inches on a sheet of untrimmed hand made paper measuring 9.5 x 7.5 inches, and has a loose tissue guard to protect it. The book is housed in a plain brown paper covered slip case.

Samuel Harding, London, 1737; Hand colored folio copper engraving of Granata punica mala, plate #97 from A Curious Herbal by Elizabeth Blackwell, legendary wife of star-crossed botanist Alexander Blackwell, who undertook the production of a medicinal herbal in order to raise money to free her husband from debtor’s prison. Elizabeth rented rooms at London’s Chelsea Physic Garden, painted watercolors of the plants growing there, and took them to Fleet prison where Alexander added the taxonomic and foreign names plus short descriptions and notations on medicinal uses for each plant. She then single-handedly engraved the copper plates and colored the prints. While her efforts on behalf of her husband were successful in the short run, in 1747 Alexander Blackwell was executed in Sweden for his involvement in efforts to overthrow the Swedish crown.
