About This Item
New York: Bollingen, Pantheon, 1954. 1st. Hardcover. Fine. Volume I bound in publisher's original quarter brown cloth with sand-colored cloth boards, spine and cover stamped in gilt. Volume II bound in same, with sand-colored cloth portfolio folding boards around non-spine edges. Comes in board slipcase wrapped in brown cloth, with label affixed to one side. Volume I includes 157 spectacular illustrations in black and white, 24 of which fold out, and two full-page photographic reproductions in color. Every section of the tomb is mapped, every text positioned and translated, every image reproduced. Volume II is a portfolio of 196 loose black and white photographic plates, each measuring 9 1/2 x 12 inches, and a 14-page booklet in brown stapled wrappers, containing an inventory of the plates. A spectacular production, in fine condition. The only minor wear is to the slipcase, which has a 2-inch closed split in the cloth along the base at the opening, invisible to the eye on the shelf and not effecting the structural integrity of the case. 9 1/2 x 12 inches. Roughly 687 pages plus fold-outs.
