Slight wear to extremities (chiefly to spine edges and lower edges); slight rubbing to covers (leather over boards; chiefly to edges); previous owner's ink signature and inscription at head of title page and rubberstamped number on first preliminary leaf; slight internal browning (chiefly to edges and preliminaries). xx, 388 pages. Originally published in Great Britain in 1857 (see Halkett & Laing VI, 61, citing the third edition (of several) issued that year); this issue's date is conjectural (former owner's holograph date of December 1893 at head of title page; not dated in book). Bound in 3/4 tan calf over dark blue marbled boards, gilt-stamped and decorated spine, covers ruled blind, gilt-stamped brown and dark blue morocco spine labels, matching marbled endpapers and edges.
