The Toledo and Western Railway Company was one of the few Ohio interurban lines originally constructed to steam railroad standards and operated on steam railroad principles. It was one of the few U.S. interurbans to operate a railway post office service over the major part of its line for most of its corporate life. It owned and used a large number of standard steam railroad freight cars and interchanged with several stea railroads, the cars travelling considerable distance from their home line.
