Complete as issued with nine hand coloured plates of dressing table paraphernalia; with moveable flaps each revealing a supposed female virtue. Bound in the original printed paper coloured buff boards, with original end papers. In very good plus condition overall; some foxing. Collates thus: Frontis engraving (by R. L Wright), showing a dressing table, title page, dedication leaf, [iv dedication signed S. G.] pp24 printed on rectos, with nine plates. The plates consist of 1) The Enchanting Mirror 2) A Wash to smooth Wrinkles revealing "contentment" 3) An universal and genuine beautifier revealing "good humour" 4) A Matchless pair of Ear Rings reveals "Attention" 5) Best White Paint reveals "Innocence" 6) Rouge Superieur ne se vend pas a Paris reveals "modesty" 7) Mixture giving Sweetness to the Voice reveals Mildness and Truth 8) A fine lip Salve reveals "Cheerfulness" 9) The late King's Eye Water reveals "Benevolence." The illustrations are by William Grimaldi. Library Hub locates just one copy of this edition at the University of Oxford Libraries. A rare book complete with all moveable flaps, now preserved in an attractive purpose made clamshell box. 20 leaves. 135 x 110 mm (5¼ x 4¼ inches).
