About This Item

London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1892 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 8" by 5". None. A smart first edition of this collection of essays by English nature writer, Richard Jefferies. First edition, in the publisher's original green cloth binding. This work is comprised of a collection of essays by English nature writer, Richard Jefferies, who was noted for his depiction of English rural life in essays, books of natural history, and novels. His childhood on a small Wiltshire farm had a great influence on him and provides the background to all his major works of fiction, but his walks near his later home in Surbiton also inspired some of the essays in this book. These works originally appeared in various magazines, including 'Fraser's Magazine' and 'Longmans Magazine'. They were published posthumously in this form. Comprised of twelve essays. With a frontispiece of a photograph taken by J. Owen, of the Margaret Thomas's bust of Richard Jefferies in Salisbury Cathedral.Includes twenty-four pages of advertisements to the rear. In the publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, smart, with light bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. Slight loss to the spine label and fading to the spine. The occasional mark to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with a touch of spotting to the first and last pages. Very Good
