This work is comprised of a collection of essays by English nature writer, Richard Jefferies, who was noted for his depiction of English rural life in essays, books of natural history, and novels. His childhood on a small Wiltshire farm had a great influence on him and provides the background to all his major works of fiction, but his walks near his later home in Surbiton also inspired some of the essays in this book. These works originally appeared in various magazines, including 'Fraser's Magazine' and 'Longmans Magazine'. They were published posthumously in this form. Comprised of twelve essays.
