First edition thus, an earlier version with only 40pp appeared about 1945. Promoting children's well-being worldwide, UNICEF works in various areas including fighting poverty, violence, disease and discrimination at the grass-roots as well as through work on policies, programmes and advocacy. This program was created in 1946 and became a permanent part of the UN System in 1953. Its headquarters are in New York. Reports on displaced children from Belgium, China, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, France, Greece, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Philippines, Poland, USSR and Yugoslavia.
