Chicago: The Reilly & Lee Co, 1942. Hardcover. 16mo. Black cloth with gilt lettering and decoration. 184pp, (8pp). Near fine. A superb first edition of this slim verse gathering by the popular "Detroit Free Press" poet. Half-title page bears a fine inscription and signature in black ink: "For / Mrs CF Menninger -- / with the very best wishes / of / Edgar A Guest / Detroit, Mich / Sept 9, 1944." Below this, likely in the recipient's hand, "17471 Hamilton Road, / Detroit, Mich." -- Guest's home address -- has been inked in blue. Florence Vesta Knisley was the wife of Charles Frederick Menninger (1862-1953), famed physician who with sons Karl and William founded the world-renowned Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas.
