First trade edition, eighteenth printing. 145, [3] pp. Publisher's quarter vellum over marbled paper-covered boards, spine label blocked in turquoise with gilt lettering. In the original German. Very Good with rubbing to marbled paper, light wear, small stain to fore edge. An uncommon signed copy of one of the author's best-known works with strong homoerotic themes.
Synopsis
The novella Death in Venice was written by the German author Thomas Mann, and was first published in 1912 as Der Tod in Venedig. It was first published in English in 1925 as Death in Venice and Other Stories, translated by Kenneth Burke. W. H. Auden called it the definitive translation.
