London: Chapman and Hall, 1859. 1st Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. Binding is secure. 332 pp with 100 illustrations by Author. A gift inscription by the Author is on a sheet which has been tipped into the book - "Will you accept this little volume as a slight mark of esteem from a quiet man who feels more than he says - and who knows how to value a friend". Another gift inscription signed by the author is on the half-title page. This inscription was crossed out and the "x" mark used to cross it out subsequently partially erased. Coverboards have some wear at top and bottom of spine. Cloth on spine has a 3" split at front starting at top of book. Corners bumped. Nicely designed book plate on fep. A few other names and another gift inscription on first few pages. Front hinge visible at half-title page and rear hinge visible at rear endpaper. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
