About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons,, 1956. A bright copy First edition, first printing, in the first issue dust jacket with the $2.75 price intact. Heinlein's novel is based on the "twin paradox" thought experiment proposed by physicist Paul Langevin: it tells the story of twin brothers, one of whom travels in space in a high-speed "torchship", returning to Earth to discover his brother has aged more than he has. This copy comes from the library of Carlota Frahm (1904-1980), with her ownership stamps to the half-title and title page. Born Carlota Thorkildsen, in 1941 Frahm married Willy Brandt (1913-1992), who later served as Chancellor of West Germany (1969-74); the pair divorced in 1948, after which Frahm founded a literary agency in Oslo, largely representing the work of foreign authors to Norwegian publishing houses. Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine and front cover lettered in black, front cover decorated in black, illustrated endpapers. With dust jacket. Spine slightly faded and bumped at head and foot, a very good copy indeed in like dust jacket, slightly worn along top edge, rubbed at extremities, otherwise bright and fresh.
