About This Item

J. B. Lippincott Company, 1959. First Edition. Hardcover. Acceptable/Good. Title page is flat-signed by one of Philip K. Dick's children, and inscribed to a previous owner by another. First U.S. edition. 221 pages. Dust jacket appears previously to have been in a DJ protector which protected it adequately, but damaged the book beneath: thin line of black staining to bottom edges of boards and endsheets, and a much slighter version of same near top edges. Boards edgeworn, bumped to spine tips. Spine cocked forward. Binding sound. Dust jacket edgeworn, crinkled to rear panel, and with small color transfer stains returned from the boards at corners and spine head. Dust jacket in fresh Mylar, cover price $3.50. Top of textblock foxed and a little dusty. Prior owner's name penned to title page. Prior owner has also penciled a quick date at page 221, and a quote from page 120 to RFEP; long horizontal scrape, or sticker scarring, at RFEP beneath. Interior else unmarked.

Synopsis

Time Out of Joint is a novel by Philip K. Dick, first published in novel form in the United States in 1959. An abridged version was also serialised in the British science fiction magazine New Worlds Science Fiction in several installments from December 1959 to February 1960, under the title Biography in Time. The novel epitomises many of Dick's themes, with its concern about the nature of reality, and ordinary people in ordinary lives having the world unravel around them.
