Farrar, Straus and Young, New York, 1954. First Edition. Hardcover (1/4 Boards 3/ Boards). Very Good Condition/Poor. Foreword by editor. 1/4 black coloured back strip with white and gold coloured titles. 3/4 light and blue coloured marbled boards. Plaintext dustwrapper with white coloured titles to the front panel and red coloured titles to the back strip. Twelve science fiction short stories  published first in this edition  by such authors as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C Clarke, Philip K Dick and Clark Ashton Smith  all dealing with how they saw the future unfold in the 1950s. Stories include:  Asimov's The Pause; Clarke's No Morning After and Philip K Dick's Jon's World. Softening and a little fading of the back strip edges and minor bumping of the book corners. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Offset tanning to the end pages with previous owners ex libris plate fixed to the free front end page. A previous owner has held down the dustwrapper to the paste downs with tape  which has left the inevitable paper marks to the end pages  please see photograph. Chipping of the top dustwrapper corners. There is a 2 inch tear to the top left hand corner of the back strip with associated creasing. A little sunning of the back strip and the rear panel shows handling marks and rubbing. The fold over panels have tape residue. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [10], 4 - 311, [1] pages,.
