About This Item
New York: Random House, 1938. Roger Vercel....winner of the 1934 Concourt Prize. This modern novel uses the Abbey of Mont St. Michel as its setting...crowning glory of medieval architecture. The novel tells of a drama enacted within the stone walls of the incredible structure that man and nature have created here - a drama of a man and a woman, of strong opposing forces and of lofty aspiration. A story simply told with such a suble interweaving of drama and scenery, moral conflict, social adjustment, and adventure..... Pale mauve cloth boards. Stamped illustration to front board, orange title block to spine. Endpapers make up a two-page spread of a scene of the shrine and Fortress of the Abbey by 'Steinberg'. A bright book in its illustrated price-clipped dust jacket. The jacket has kept this delicate coloured cloth very clean. The jacket itself shows a sunned spine. Title and illustration to spine remains bright. Wear to jacket extremities but jacket overall is bright. A nice copy.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good.
