Stafford writing to Louis McKee, the publisher of the literary magazine "The Axe Factory Review" apologizing profusely for his unintended duplicate submission. "I found to my horror that... "Listening to the Tide"... is alas at two places now... (and) the only thing to do was write this note in great haste, to minimize the damage..." Stafford goes on to explain his manuscript management, and how he could have made his mistake. Ends with "Humbly and guilty." Signed "Bill Stafford" in ink. Aprx two hundred and forty words. Exmouth, Eng, 1800. Very Good. 1 folded sheet creating 4 pages; handwritten letter on 2 pages (signed), 1 page blank, address on the 4th page. Teignmouth notes that "Lady Teignmouth has lately presented me with another son." The engraved portrait (drawn by J. Richmond, engraved by W. Walker) was published by Hatchard & Sons in 1843. John Shore, 1st Baron Teignmouth (1751-1834) was an official of the East India Co. and served as Governor General of Bengal from 1793 to 1797; the following year he was created Baron Teignmouth. He was also the first president of the British and Foreign Bible Society. In Very Good Condition: letter is lightly creased; lightly soiled; print is lightly soiled in margins; indentation at upper edge; image is clean and crisp.

1808. Very Good. 1 handwritten letter from the Duke of Montrose, dated 3 May 1808, London, responding to a request from Lt. Col. Simpson for scheduling the Eastern Battalion of Stirlingshire Volunteer Infantry for two weeks at Stirling. James Graham, 3rd Duke of Montrose (1755-1836), was a member of Parliament in 1780 and from 1784 to 1790 and is said to be responsible for the repeal of the act prohibiting the wearing of tartans in 1782. He was Master of the Horse from 1790 to 1795, and from 1807 to 1821, during which period this letter was written. In Very Good Condition: creasing; darkened along upper edge; light ink from another letter placed on top while damp.

Some Wear And Soiling. Harold Victor Bauer (1873 - 1951) Was A Noted Pianist Who Began His Musical Career As A Violinist. He Took Up The Study Of The Violin Under The Direction Of His Father And Adolf Pollitzer. He Made His Debut As A Violinist In London In 1883, And For Nine Years Toured England. In 1892, However, He Went To Paris And Studied The Piano Under Ignacy Jan Paderewski For A Year, Though Still Maintaining His Interest In The Violin. An Anecdote Reports That Paderewski Jokingly Told Bauer To Concentrate On The Piano Because "You Have Such Beautiful Hair". On joint 1 billet autographe signé sur sa carte de visite à l'adresse du 136 rue de Longchamp, 2 pp. in-48, sd [ca 1901]. Dans le premier billet, il indique à son correspondant (Jean-Paul Brunet, critique à l'hebdomadaire "Le Mondain bordelais") que l'édition tirée à part de "Jeanne" est épuisée depuis longtemps mais que l'on peut trouver ses poésies chez Lemerre. Il regrette de ne plus voir son père, mais en a des nouvelles par Daniel de Sèze. Dans le second billet, il remercie Jean-Paul Brunet pour tout le bien qu'il dit de ses poèmes. Bel état.
